Outside overhead oiling

Gentlemen,

Is it recommended to use outside oiling heads in combination with '59 cases.
And if so, what is the best way to make a conversion of the oil lines from inside oiling cases to outside oiling heads.

If it was my bike I would leave it alone and oil up the cylinder like OEM. Jerry

I agree with Jerry, but I did do this for my '62. I was younger with few contacts and needed a set of heads and all I came across was an outside oiler set. I ran a line off my tappet screen. I made a custom fitting that duplicated the cap threads to a 1/8 pipe for a compression fitting. At first I used 1/4" line thinking more oil was better, wrong, too much oil that couldn't drain quick enough. I then used the same diameter as '63-'65, 1/8" I think and it was fine. I rode the bike with that setup for 10 years, never a problem.

I understand that the high temperature of the oil through the inside oil lines give a poorer lubrication.
Are there any other considerations?

The earlier oiling system will not be a problem.

15 years of Panheads run fine with oil through the cylinders, I wouldn't alter unless for a different reason.

what about going the other way on 63-65 and opening up the inside oilers for earlier heads...
