  • starting my pan

    after five years of putting it together iam trying to start it I have spark and gas to the carb but the more I kick the bike just pops and shoots gas out the carb. There is no gas getting to the clyinders the plugs are dry can anybody give me some hints on what iam doing wrong. Thanks I need all the help I can get

    It sounds like you are taking it off choke too soon. Backfiring out the carb is usually a lean condition. Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Cotton will soon check in and he is the expert on such leaks. I would intentionally see if I could flood it and then I would at least have a starting point. If you could not flood it then you have a carb issue because I have found panheads to be very easy to flood.

        There may be other issues,
        but your first diagnostic is to bubble-test your manifold assembly, as discussed at http://virtualindian.org/11techleaktest.html.

        It requires a constant, regulated air supply of no more than 15 psi.
        A #9 rubber stopper with a nipple through it works as well as a testplate, but needs three hands.
        (A stopper is the only way to test pre-'55 intake nipples separately.)

        Please wash all soap off thoroughly when finished;
