  • 65 FLH trunk question

New to the hobby (life?) Just purchased a 65 FLH and there is a rack on the back fender that looks like a truck could go on it. Craigs List locally has a early truck that looks correct, but I don't know if this was an optional add on.

Also where can I get the accessary catalog for my 65? I assume they are on dvd somewhere?

You should be able to find accessory catalog on e bay. Tour pack will fit on luggage rack. They have quick release spring brackets on underside and are made of fiberglass.

Thank you for your help, but I really wanted to know if the tour pack was correct for a 65. I've been watching ebay, but so far nadda on the accessary catalog.

      Thanks again,

Post a picture. Same tour pack fits a correct luggage rack for 10 or more model years.

          This is the trunk.

          Thanks,

That is an aftermarket tour pack. A lot of guys did run that style in the 60's and 70's. It will fit if it has the correct brackets. Genuine Harley is better looking in my opinion

This is the information I was looking for. It isn't a "correct" trunk for the 1965 FLH, only a aftermarket.

The first Tour Pack HD offered was in 1969 ,only in white until later years .

Semper fi, the tour pack from 1969 will fit your 65 if you have the correct luggage rack. I run one on my 62 on trips. just keep look on e bay. They come up from time to time.

I have the accessory catalog for '65. There is no mention of a tour-pak available. So while you may find one that fits it would not be "correct"

I have finally gotten the accessary catalog for the 65 and you're right, it wasn't available back then. Thanks for posting, though.

Just because an accesssory is not listed in the year of manufacture of the bike does not mean you should not or cannot run the part. I know of many owners myself included that run a later model tour pack on our panheads. It is a great addition to the bike if you ride on longer trips

My point exactly cotton. Past and present. Great pics. Have seen some of those. The old boy that got burried recently on his 67 fl in mechanicsburg,oh would have fit in with that group. His bike was the same theme as those.

Just to add, there was no "tour pac" available during 65 model year. Tour Pac first shows up in '67 and is the smallish one. They were white only. Also the early ones had a tire pressure sticker inside that show a lower pressure setting for the tires when loaded than the later versions that had a sticker showing a higher tire pressure setting. Just a minor note if you really care. Either way if you are trying to look closer to what was available right after '65 model year the early first couple years of that Tour Pac would have a sticker that shows the lower tire pressure setting.

Other than that - doesn't really matter as a "Tour Pac" is strictly a "post model year" accessory for '65 and was not part of any King of the Highway grouping available for '65 model year. PM me if you would like some photos. I have both the early version with the lower pressure sticker and the third party version you show in your original post, I can't recall the mfg. name of that one but they were pretty popular back in the 70's and were the pre-cursor to the now common "wrap around" style large capacity tour pac/trunks.
