front brake cable replaced on 62 pan

Iam replaceing the front brake cable and brake tube the cable runs throw the adjustment screw only goes in the tube a little ways . How far should it go in the tube? and do I have to cut the screw? thanks for all the help

The adjuster should go into the tube all the way with the adjuster lock nuts threaded all the way to the top.
