    fuel shut off

    on my 62 pan is the rubber on the shaftis it to keep the shaft up when you pull on it for reserve ? thanks

    Yes and to seal the tanks there as well so gas doesn't go sloshing all over.

      Yeah that top gasket (outside the tank on the top) seals the shaft and keeps fuel from spilling out up on top of the tank. Proper set up/compression allows the shaft to hold main and reserve positions as well. It's pretty easy task to tighten appropriately to compress that rubber gasket enough to seal things. Had mine loosen up last season and a quick look at the parts manual gave me the big picture. That gasket is a a bit specific not easily replaced by a simple o ring BTW.
