58 rigid

Did H-D put out any rigids in 58, anyone who knows of any or could point me in a direction where I could get proof proving or disproving this would be greatly appreciated . Thanks

This is by no means proof but 35 years ago a friend of mine bought a 1958 FL from a local police department (sorry but I forget the town) and it was in a rigid frame. I just wish I could go back and look at that bike and the situation again. Maybe it was legit but it also could have been a number job or maybe the cops also had a 1957 and somehow the motors got changed. I was not as smart about HD's then as I think I am now. That was before I even cared if an engine was restamped and I am sure I had never heard of date codes and all that other stuff.

If I remember right this bike was sent to Europe by our local HD dealer in the mid to late 70's.

When I was younger before the drunk carload of illegals ran a red light and changed my world forever I was aspiring to be a tuner for flat trackers . I met a couple of old timers who would talk me up about owning a lot of flat track Harleys on a smaller than factory budget. To save on registrations they would own five or six motors all with the same set of numbers. Not a problem until they were sold . You could buy a bike and it could have the same numbers as five others. Not a real problem until one hits the hot sheets. Harley did this knowingly. If I said the name of the individual who told me this if you were into racing you would recognise him as one the better tuners who got famous working on KRs for the factory team . But when I was being told this information it was the early eighties maybe mid every thing starts running together over the years. Any way when they came out with the 58 swingarm like everything else in life a lot of older riders resisted change . I was told you could special order a rigid . I think this was 58 only. I think the practice stopped on 59. I don't know if they were using up old stock or just making them as needed . I would like to have more proof. Then what I got . I have one in my garage but to me that's no proof cause I haven't seen the original pink for it . But I'm looking .
