    Most 1948 FL's used a M35T.

      Jerry!

But they are far less common than the M35TP, and they all seem to come from '48's too.

      George!

The "expert" reference is Bruce Palmer III's "How to Restore Your Harley-Davidson" (Motorbooks International), and outlines most of the model changes.

Beware that there were four different M74Bs,... at least.

        Early 51 used M-74 with 408 casting. I had a M74-B with 408 casting I believe was for late 51 (any comments)? 52 through 65 used M74-B with 418 casting.

          Kerry!

Here's what little I know: (Attached)

At top is the M74; then the 408 casting with a serif'd B,
then the casting with a detente hump by the LS needle,
by '55 the B lost its serifs, and '56 lost the hump.

I have no idea of the exact dates that these, and other changes occurred.

              George!

I would greatly appreciate photos of the 2-398 version of the M74 for my studies!

I believe your '52 should appear like the third example in my photo posted previously.

              But you never know.....

                  Hi Mr. T. Cotten,
posted 3 fotos from my M74 for you . Removed it from my 1950 Pan to install two new bushings for the throttle axle.
                  Yes, my M74B has the # 2-418 and my M45 has the # 2-398
Best regards , George AMCA 2781

                    George!

I have downloaded the photos, and they are a delight.
The unique side-vent assures me that it is authentic, as it is a missing link in the evolution of models from 35 to 35T to 35TP to the more common form of the M74 with the 308 casting.

Is the highspeed needle stepped upon its point?

                    Many thanks!

First, thank you for the advice to Bruce Palmer's book. Have seen the Carburetor Data Chart - great - all my Linkert's are correct for the Panhead's model yaer.
Cotten, don't understand your last question - explain it me please what you exactly mean ? ( sorry, my english isn't good )

                        George!

Does your high-speed needle point look like the one in this photo?

                            George!

It suggests that the stepped tip did not come about until the casting change.

                            Thanks again,

Haven't seen such a stepped High Speed Needle at any time. Bruce Palmer's book shows not a such one too.
Is that in case of a M74 a later or earlier used Needle?
