That being said Chris there are different finishes/appearances of different platers. My buddy on the mainland wasn't to happy about the appearance of the stuff he was getting done and asked me about the plating I get done, so I brought him a piece to look at the next time I went over. He quit using the plater he used on the mainland and now uses the plater here on the island for his restorations because of the better appearance.

The cad you get today is not like the old stuff. The new stuff has brighteners in it. According to my two cad platters that is all they can get now from their suppliers. On another note: Both of them have told me that cad platting has got about a year to go before the EPA pulls the plug. The only reason cad is still in play is because the military uses it. So if you're doing a resto. Get everything you need platted Chop! Chop! Chrome has got five years on the outside. Platters are going to start drying up at an alarming rate. D&D Classic Brightworks in Ohio.

Not cheap, but their work is utterly superb. They do Cad 1 and Cad 2 as well as Watts Nickel, Bright Nickel and Chrome.
They are the best I have ever seen. But, again, not cheap.

Ohio-Rider, we had this whole discussion on platting and the EPA a while back on the Panhead site. Someone mentioned the Caswell kits and this was member Kibabel's response. I think he summed it up real well. Bob L
And one fine day in the near future, some pin-head at EPA will justify his salary by subpoenaing Caswell's customer list, and sending a friendly agent to every person who bought a plating kit.
No questions will be asked. Instead, you will be invited to provide documentary proof (video tape, receipt from a certified haz-mat company) as to how you properly disposed of the hazardous chemicals.
If you're lucky, he'll just write you a summons for $1,000 and leave.
If he's in a bad mood, he'll call in his crew to excavate your lawn to test for toxic chemicals. Guess who pays for that, even if they find nothing? That's right.
No, I'm not kidding. People who owned garages, dry cleaners, paint shops, platers, etc. 30 years ago are beginning to get interesting letters asking for proof that the plume of poisonous material in the watershed is not the result of their completely legal activity.

I was kidding Bob. I miss Paps too, and one thing you both had in common was the character to say what is on your mind. I have to say; even with all the ribbing Paps took, I don't recall him ever going caveman on anyone.Eric Smith
