1965 electraglide battery side covers

I am looking for input on the smooth oem battery side cover with the spot welded lower bracket .I have only seen a few of these(3) and most factory photos show an exposed battery on the side.Is it in the 65 accesory catalog.All the 66 thru 69,s I have seen have the ribbed cover in place,thanks.

Hello - as far as I know a '65 would have no side cover only the top. The side covers are a '66 part and were always ribbed. A smooth cover would have been a dealer/3rd party accessory as far as I know.

Anyway side cover is a '66 accessory, not available in '65. It does not appear in the 65 accessory catalog just 66 on. There is a '66 Christmas insert that shows it too in one of the Enthusiast issues. I think it's the September issue, can't put my hands on my copy right now else would confirm. I know others have that doc though so my remark.

Maybe that's why the ribbed cover doesn't fit MY 65 perfectly.

Perhaps, but the ribbed covers fit just fine. Have one on my '65. It's just that they aren't considered "original" for a '65 but they were intended by HD to be used on 65 up.
