!6" rims

I had planned to have the Kelsey Hayes ft. rim on my 51FL re-chromed and the spokes done also, but the rim needs to be replaced. I have a good -62 rim and looking side by side I can't see any difference on the outsides.
Am I missing something or are they the same? This bike is very close to being all origional and I want to keep it as close as possible.

Now while I haven't seen all the -62 wheels in the world, the ones I have seen are different than what a 51 would use. The extreme outer edge is rolled over more on a -62 than it is on an earlier wheel. I suppose it is so the tire bead slips over easier when mounting and doen't cut in so easily.

The roll in the outer edge of the -62 rim is a strength improvement. The slight radius makes the edge much stronger and less prone to bending when hitting a pothole or the like. When placed side by side the difference is visible. All the -40 rims I've seen are flat on the edge.

I compared a 48 to a 61 and saw no difference. I'm not saying there can't be, I just can't see it if it's there.

I just went out and looked again and there is a noticable difference at the edge. -62 is a stronger looking rim, but is it aceptable? If so I'll replace both, if not I'm in search of another early rim.

The -62 will work fine. Don't put it on a bike you are going to have judged though.

Thanks, thats what I was wanting to know about judging. I rarely ever show a bike, but I still want it to be as correct as I can keep it.

What is wrong with your early rim?

It's held water inside at one time and rusted pretty bad everywhere between the tire beads. A lot of scale around the stem hole and spokes in that area especially. I haven't checked the thickness yet but looks thin.
