How difficult is it to mate a right case with a left case?

I may have a good lead on a titled left case, with no apparent damage to it. Unmolosted VIN number. But it is only the case 1/2

Other than finding right side case in good shape and line lapping the case half's and making the cylinder base even and the engine mouning feet as well, what other issues should I be aware of before I make the choice to get the titled case?

When mating cases always mate the left case to match the right and not vice versa.

Yes George,
As long as all the machined surfaces are matched and the case bushings are line lapped it is all good. You won't ever qualify for Winners circle judging though!

I am never going to have any bike that I own judged.

I feel that it is overrated, and for me not necessary.

If everything works out, just a good running bobber just to have FUN with.

Once I depart ways with my 2000 ElectraGlide, I will never have another motorcycle that has computer controled anything on it.

With all due respect to Robbie, he is incorrect at least from a historical perspective, I know from personal experience. But if it will never be judged, it is as you say, immaterial.

Many Restoration Shops Will Match The Belly Numbers For You These Days. Its Not Illegal Its Restoring. As Long As You Can Show Proof Of The Origin You Won't Have A Problem. The Police Could Care Less About Restoring Things And Making Things Correct. They Are Only Interested It Prosecuting Thieves

In all states that I know of it is illegal to deface, destroy, or alter any manufacturers motor number, or other distinguishing number, or identification mark of a vehicle. In CA this is section 10751 of the Vehicle Code. Line bore or bottom numbers are used to identify the H-D engines and are subject to the law. An altered line bore number can cause you to lose your bike and go to jail.

you're contradicting yourself chris. know there are exceptions the any rule. i also know that a perfectly legal and original vin number can land you in jail ant they can confiscate the motorcycle for 6 months. it happened to me so i know first hand. BUT for the most part my previous post holds true. next time i won't tell the cop i was sleeping with his old lady. bad decision. i got the bike and an apology back

How is that a contradiction? I didn't advise anybody to stamp a number on a new replacement case.
