  • Spring forks revisited?

    I am trying to find out what year Harley phased out the furnace-braised rear fork connections and went to the electric welded joints. I tried to bring up past threads on this subject but was not able to do so. If there is a past thread on this subject, can anyone direct me to it? If not, I am trying to determine what would be correct for a 1943 Big Twin. Should the spring perch forging on the rear fork be welded of braised? I am assuming this year is close to a transition and both may be correct. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance....

    I think it should be brazed. What are you doing an EL or UL. I own 43E1062 and its' rear leg is brazed.

      Jerry is correct. Welding didn't appear til late 1944. The earliest photo I have a Dec 1944 showing welded fork on 42WLA63506

        Thank you both for the info. It will be going on a '43 U. I Thought it should be brass but just wanted some confirmation from the pros. Any suggestions on a supplier for gray paint?
