  • '47 exhaust finishes

Hi, I am restoring a '47 EL and am not sure of the correct finishes on the exhaust pipes and clamps. What is the best type of paint to use and did the muffler and the pipes have the same finish? Also are the clamps parkerized or painted?

    Thanks

Black mufflers and pipes were Hi-Temperature black paint. Clamps were ALWAYS Parkerized. In some cases the clamps were painted black after being Parkerized. The '47 shows painted clamps.

The exhaust system was always gloss black with painted clamps up until the 50's Panheads which were silver on the head pipes. We use a special ceramic coating for automotive headers that is baked on at 500 degrees. This is the most durable finish we have found throughout years of trial and error, it maintains color and is very durable, but expensive.

Thanks Carl, who manufactures the ceramic coating or where can I have it done?
