  • Tool box position

What is the proper toolbox position for a 47 Knuckle? I see many with the box in the lower position but I have also seen photos with the box in the upper position. Did they all leave the factory the same or was there a change mid production? What is the benefit of having the box mounted low. Seems like it would get hot so near to the muffler.

I found this I Palmer's (pg 92). Referring to 1941-1947 models. Non radio models mounted the tool box high and radio models mounted them low. This makes sense to me but a lot of the recent restorations is see have the box in the lower position.

Low is the default position if you mount saddle bags.
