Thanks to all you guys for this information about the rear fenders. The '48 fender details and the rivets is a huge find for me

I am in the process of restoring a '48 Pan that was my Grandfathers. It went through a fire, and I need to redo everything on the bike. Finding information out like this really helps a new guy like myself, insure I am doing what is right for the restoration. I want to put it back to original, but I have figured out, there is no way around using a repop part here and there.(at least for now).

Thanks for all the useful info. If interested you can check out my project at www.grandpasharley.com

    Thanks Again,

Josh, you have a great project there and it looks like you've made good progress. The sheet metal doesn't look that bad from the pictures. Heat stressed metal can be returned to a workable state by sand blasting. Genuine sheet metal is a treasure and well worth the effort to save. My '48 sheet metal is all genuine except for the rear fender.

Great web page on your restoration, Chris. Glad to see Grandma get a ride. The greatest thing is that the bike has a history to you personally. I wish I had one of my uncle's old Knuckles or Pans, or my dad's. The bike looks pretty complete. Good luck. You, like I, seem to really appreciate the expertise we get here from all of the really knowledgeable folks who willingly offer their expertise and time to help out us newbies.
