    Does anyone make a 1" replacement stem, for the 36-48
    big twin springer? I have a rear leg, that has a broken
    stem. After, grinding out the weld on the bottom. It does
    not budge, Do I need a lot of heat on it? Thanks

    I would like to know the answer to this question also. I have a rear leg that has the stem HACKSAWED off. Why anyone would ever do this, I don't know. But I'd like to remove what's left of the stem and make this leg good again.

        Chris's cross section photo is excellent showing the inner ring. Its all sweat braced together. Years ago I had no luck in removing one. I think I have an idea that would work now. Drill from the bottom making the hole bigger so that the wall of for stem is about 1/16". Drill deep enough so that the depth is greater than the bottom tree thickness. Using a acet. torch, heat the fork stem inside the hole red hot. When you think the braze has melted start twisting and turning the fork stem out. Just might work! Worse comes to worse the stem could be machined out. I don't believe the stem is availlable. A machinest could make one up.

          I managed to pop a 3/4" stem loose once with my 60 ton press.

          When I saw the construction, I realized it was pure luck.

            You might have a tough time twisting the stem out as it's knurled and pressed in before brazing. I've popped a few with a press after grinding off the tack weld on the bottom.
