Hi,
I am putting the fork on my 39 frame and I read in palmers book that there should be a convex self centering piece under he bottom race. The old extended fork that came with the basket had this piece on the stem. I put the piece on the new fork and it allows the race to move around and not sit flat on the springer. It seems like it may allow the race to self center or it may cock the race and allow for a crooked race when the bearing gets adjusted. The parts book does not show this piece. Any suggestions?
Also should I use a dust cup between the fork and the race? It seems to me that a dust cup may hold water.
