Does any one sell rebuilt star hubs . Tired of buying worn out ones

Palmer book gives very simple step by step instructions on rebuilding. Supplemented by a service manual it’s not a difficult task. -
I have found the the races in the hubs can be replaced. It does require OD and ID grinding. Ironhead Sportster and WL male rod races work well.Be sure to visit;

If what you are asking is, does anyone repair the races that are worn out. I have read that some people use Lee Armitage in Ohio, a club member, that an old roster will bring up his info. I have never personally used his services but have heard his name frequently over the years, maybe still doing it or not? I think he may get the races hard chrome sprayed then regrind them to size. I have done my own as it is usually the small end that is worn and a race can be installed as Chris said. The large end not so easily with the snap ring grooves. Don't know what access you have to machines, but I made an arbor that locates off the large race, then I bore the small end to press fit the above mentioned rod race then hone it to finish size. It's ok to do my own, but very cost prohibitive to do for a customer, unless a rare step hub. I think most would rather just buy another $75 hub and take their chances then pay several hours shop time. My opinion. I would try Lee, as someone that is set up to do it would be more efficient and experienced.Bob Rice #6738Comment
