  • Rear exhaust rocker arm oiling

A friend of mine is putting together his heads on his '38 EL. He is checking the oiling with the heads on the bench. He has cleaned out all of the rocker arm passages in the rocker box, rocker arms and the bottom tins. He made an adapter for his oil squirt gun to the rocker box oil line fitting. The intake on the rear head is oiling the valve, but the rear is dribbling very little. The shafts are the early ones with the groove in them. I have heard about adjusting the shafts by twisting them to the right or left, but I can't find any info on it. Thanks in advance, Craig

So the next question is, how to determine how much oil your getting? I have a rear head cover oil leak. I am assuming I may have oil pooling in the head. How do I determine this?
Seems like pulling a pushrod tube and running would be pretty messy.

Make sure you are getting an air-tight seal on the pushrod tubes or oil will pool up quickly in the rocker box and leaks will be abundant.
