  • 1942 Knuckle motor on Facebook Marketplace

I don't spend much time on Facebook, but I came across this motor on Marketplace (somewhat locally) and figured I'd share. Seems like '42 isn't a high production year, so maybe someone is interested? I have no affiliation to the seller. Asking $25k and located in Oklahoma. https://www.facebook.com/share/1Dfigxpvky/

I don't like the look of the numbers, especially the Line Bore numbers shown on eBay.

Marketplace says ‘This Listing Isn't Available Anymore’ but does anyone know what happened to that motor?

I can’t see anything wrong with the SN characters and they all appear normal for a 42 Knuckle.
The 4 has a top that is closed but not pointed. There is a serif across the base and it looks like it doesn’t extend as far right as the horizontal stroke above it.
Overall the 2s look the type I’d expect, including the vertical serif at bottom right.
E and L are sans serif.
The 1 has a horizontal serif at top left. And a serif at the base that appears to extend further to the right of the vertical stroke than to the left of it.
The 7 has a vertical serif at top left and the back looks normal.
The 8 appears to be the usual type. It doesn’t look weighted.

The SN boss appears to have striations but they’re not uncommon for a 42 Knuckle and the subject has been discussed many times over the years on one site or another. And I remember two such discussions in particular, one of which was here on the AMCA forum.
Also discussed before is what may be an indent just under the 4 but it too is not uncommon for a 42 Knuckle and it may be a flaw in the casting.
Is anything else going on with the SN boss? Hard to say but a clearer photo may have resolved that.

For comparison of what may be a flaw in the casting under the 4, here’s a close-up from another case and it also reveals a few striations.

      And here’s another example.

Why don’t you like the look of the SN? Were you referring to every character in it or only some of them?
And regarding the line-bore numbers, I only saw one of them and that was via Marketplace. Where were the line-bore numbers shown on ebay? Can you post photos of them from ebay.
