Fair amount of repop and mismatched parts but it looks good. Jerry

Ebay says: ‘Oem vin. No restamp’

It may not be a restamp in the true sense of the word because it doesn’t look like anything was stamped there before.
But OEM VIN? I wonder what that opinion is based on.

Four months ago I received a photo of the complete SN of an alleged 46EL and I think it was from that bike on ebay. I said it didn’t look consistent with factory stamping. I questioned the 5s and the length of the centre stroke of the E. I also said that although the 4 has an open top, a slightly curved left stroke and a serif across the base, overall it does not look the same as the 4s in the two examples I sent for comparison. Here are the two examples I sent.

Back then I said I’d like photos of the BNs but I never received them.

I notice ebay says: ‘Matching belly numbers’
But it also says: ‘I can’t find my pics of belly numbers. After Christmas I will take more.’

I’ll keep an eye out for the photos of the BNs.

I don't really like the story about why he is selling it, and how he got it, read for yourself.

Yesterday I asked the seller to post photos of both BNs. He replied and there is now a picture on ebay. I can’t see anything wrong with the R-H BN and all its characters are consistent with factory stamping for a 46 BN at that stage of numbering.

But none of the characters in the left BN are consistent with factory stamping for a 46 BN, regardless of the stage of numbering.

No dog in this race for me. I've been through the whole process of having fellow enthusiasts and AMCA folks telling me what's wrong with the numbers on previously owned bikes. Sometimes they were right and I should have known better. Other times they turned out to be wrong.

So... not to question the authenticity of these numbers or disparage the seller in any way I just have one observation. As Eric pointed out, the LH belly number fonts are different than the RH. I don't know enough about how they should look to comment. I do think it is unlikely and hard to imagine someone on the MoCo line stamping one side, setting down those stamps and then stamping the other side with a completely different set.
