Headlamp socket

How does one know which wire from the socket goes to the big or small terminal inside the bucket? I've got 1 black wire and another wire that might have been red at one time.

According to the wiring diagram the handlebar switch the black wire goes to the large screw, the red to the small. The inside of the bucket should match that.
