  • Bird Derby Cover

I found this derby cover in a box o' parts. I know nothing about it and was hoping that someone more knowledgeable than I, can enlighten me. Were they produced by the factory or period accessories? Also, any idea of value? Old or newer repop?

    Thanks gents!

Superior Products made them. Also air cleaner covers and spring fork rocker covers with the same design.

The derby cover and air cleaner covers are very common and their best use is a bolt dish. The rare air cleaner cover is the one for the left side carb such as on a UL. Fork rocker covers are hard to find too. Jerry

              Larry,
All that Superior bird stuff was from the very late '40s and '50s. The industry was fighting for its life by the mid '50s. (You are aware that the USA and the rest of the world was in a global recession, right?) The motorcycle industry was sucking wind in the mid '50s. Lots of companies (can you spell Indian?) went out of business. Accessory manufacturers were scrambling to survive. Dealer incentives, trade show giveaways, etc, were all part of the attempts to stay afloat. Most did not make it. Superior was one, sold, and resold...
Here is another from a bit later in that period.

So the ashtrays lived on the counters of motorcycle shops.
