Manifold 1108-41

Hi Folks,
did anybody ever extended the lenght of an original Manifold 1108-41.
The most you get is 82,5 mm long and is for EL, hard to find one with 88 to 90 mm for a FL Knucklehead.
I have an original EL Manifold and want to extend it. The factory had only one lenght and shortened it either for the EL or the FL.

Yes, of course, Danny!

But first, beware of a lot of expert misinformation about manifolds and widths. Please measure the distance between inlet nipples on your assembled motor.

I stopped worrying about manifold widths after outfitting several 3.250" manifolds for FL Pans. The scarcity of FL Pan manifolds suggests they never existed, and those that do were cut from Knuck castings. I would be delighted to see a genuine silver-soldered steel manifold for '48-49 Pans in 3 3/8" width, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've done that. Fairly simple with a small lathe, some round stock, and silver braze.

Unless your lathe chuck is huge, Danny,...

You will want to conjure a counterweight for turning the manifold after silver-soldering.

But a measurement between inlet nipples may save you a lot of effort!

It was a few years ago, and I've got CRS, but I'll try. I machined both ends of the manifold, then turned sleeves to fit, allowing clearance for the braze. I then silver brazed 100% and finish machined. Turn slowly and you won't need counterweight. manifold2.JPG

So, you re-cut both spigots, silver-solder-sweated on sleeves, and then re-cut the whole thing true and to size for brass seals?

Did you measure the internal bevel angle of the nuts?
