Where are the casting codes on the early knucklehead cases? Inside or out side?

Cases weren't date coded until mid 1938 production.

Paul, the earliest casting date code I’ve seen on a Harley Knuckle left case is from May 1938. It is E 8 and outside. Also as you can see below, casting number 112-35 is outside.

        On 112-35 cases, other examples I have of outside date codes are G 8, H 8, I 8, J 8, L 8, A 9 and B 9.

Earliest casting date code I’ve seen on a Harley Knuckle R-H case appears to be from March 1938. It is inside and looks like C 8. Casting number is 112-352 inside. On 112-352 cases, other examples I have of inside date codes are E 8, H 8, I 8, J 8, L 8 and A 9.
NB: although it seems most of the time casting number 112-352 was inside, it can at times be found outside, below the gear compartment. But so far I’ve only seen it outside on two 1936 model cases. Other 1936 model R-H cases I’ve seen, as well as 1937–39 model R-H cases I've seen, have 112-352 inside.

In another thread you asked about a 43FL serial number so I sent you a PM about that.
