Please help me ID these cases.

They may be old House of Horsepower cases that have been polished. I love the "old" California DMV/CHP DRF numbers. I could have re-registered my '67 Shovelhead with the original frame numbers but it had good pink registered to a great looking early riveted Cal DMV/CHP blue tag on it so I left it. Just like the ones they use to put on our old long bikes out here in the good old days. My friend in New Jersey has DRF numbers on his '46 FL (original cases) and always gets hassled by restorers back east at meets and runs. He thinks there cool too. It's all m/c history guys. Replacement cases. Not everything from the factory lasted. My '67 is still registered as an H_D and the factory motor numbers are on the pink and it will still go from point A to B and back.

Could you please educate me on what these numbers mean and where they came from? I don't know what DRF means or what states/DMV's used them.

Are the numbers to the right of the DRF numbers, the ones ending in 949, the serial numbers for the particular case?

I would like to find out as much info as I can about these cases.

The DRF number is State of California issued. The other was the number the manufacturer put on the case. Common on custom construction bikes, but also on some old PD units and theft recovery vehicles.

DRF Department Registry File. An old CA State assigned number. Used to be referred to a Don't Ride the Fuc**r due to constant harassment by LEO.

My 49 Fl registration shows; Date first sold 1949. Next to that under Make; HARDA, yr. 1954: yr model 1949. The DRF number was stamped on the original HD frame, not the engine (original cases) and the engine number does not appear on the pink slip or registration. Prior to Calif. going to the infamous "blue tags that were riveted to the frame" DRF numbers were also assigned often randomly to machines brought into Calif. from other states and special construction bikes. I've seen DRF numbers stamped on necks, front down tubes and on the side of the frame by the battery, all pans and knuckles.

LAPD registered all of their Panheads by a DRF number. That way when the bike came in the shop. Got a fresh engine stuffed into it. And back out on the street. Time saving. Old LAPD Panheads were a mixture of parts by the time they were sold as surplus.

Here is a close up of the other numbers, and what looks like a couple eagles stamped on it. It also doesn't seem to have any reinforcing ribs on the case. Can anyone ID the MFG?

Basically, this is NOT a factory HD case of any sort, right?

Correct, not H-D of any sort. Numbers look like old House of Horsepower cases.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, I would be interested in knowing who manufactured the shift/kickstand bracket assembly and shift arm and if they're still available? Also, it looks like there is a 2" belt mounted on 3" drive pulleys. Does the belt have a tendency to walk when running?
