  • Correct instrument panel cover & panel cover plate screws for 1937 & 1939 EL

The 1937 parts book shows part #035 (10-32 NF x 3/8 Fillister head screw) for both the panel cover to base and panel cover plate screws. The parts images confirm a Fillister head screw, although the image is much clearer where it is listed as the front fork brake coil clip screw. The 1939 parts book shows #035 again for panel cover screws (1936 -39 EL) and panel cover plate screws (1938-39 EL). The 1948 parts book shows #035 (1936 OHV, 1937-46) and #4505-39A (self tapping screw 1939-46) for the panel to base screws. The panel cover plate screws are not listed, however, the schematic parts diagram shows the #4505-39A, which looks like a pan-head wood screw, for the cover to base screws and round head screws (#035?) for the panel cover plate screws. The 1948 parts book only lists one 10-32 NF x 1/4 round head screw (#034). Logic tells me the original parts books would be correct and use the Fillister head screws for both applications on both the 1937 and 1939, however Palmer's most recent book mentions only round head screws in the section on dash bases and all the images I could find show only round head screws. On page 667 the first page in the second book shows a good factory photo of a 1937 dash with round head screws. The pan-head type base screws #4505-39A, which doesn't appear in the 1939 parts book, show up sometime during the WWII years (1940?) however the war production knucklehead on the cover of his books has round head panel to base screws. Can someone clarify what the correct instrument panel screws are for 1937 and 1939? Thanks

Thanks for the reply Len. Still wonder why the 1939 parts book didn't list the #4505-39A screw. What about the panel side cover screws in 1939? Fillister head #035?
