M-35 carb finish

I recently acquired an M-35 carb in excellent original condition but with an unusual finish at least to me. It's flat military green. One would think it might have been on a 1942 to early 1946 OHV model. What's stranger is were there are a few scratches the body show a nickel finish. As anyone ran into this before? You would think with the war shortages that nickel wouldn't have been used and if it had been done later after the war who would have painted over it with olive drab paint. The finishes look to be original and all the hardware is original Parkerizing. Care to venture an answer?

Just goes to show that there's an exception to every rule.

But perhaps the 'parkerizing' is actually patinated cadmium?
