  • knucklehead frame neck ID

Is this neck an L41-E46 forging... or M46 and later bullneck? The only faint hallmark I can barely see is the XE-35 on the LH side of the neck. The portion I have was cut off above the sidecar loops and behind the upper motor mount (so no other clues). Appreciate any help, Erik...

Hi. It is a bit deceptive in the picture, so I measured a Bullneck here and it measures 1.115" from the back of the bearing cup bore to the back of the excess metal at the back. By the look of it, someone has bored a bearing cup out, and the taper for the edge of the cup went with it. The stake marks around it suggest a loose cup at one time.

41 to 45 frames are 4.5" from damper tab to front (like your photo).
Bullneck frames are 5" from damper tab to front.

That neck is later 1941 into early 1946 - other things on the frame could narrow that range down considerably. With all the brass I would think close to 1941 than 1946.
