Seriously, how does a crusty old aftermarket bumper get up to $1,400 with 66 bidders? If the seller is bidding against himself, isn't he on the hook to pay ebay seller's fees? Just curious how intelligent, or stupid scams work.

Definitely absurd. I've heard an ebay seller who talked about getting "ghost bidders" to boost an item with hopes of being out bid on the last minute by a legit bidder. A ploy to over inflate. If the ghost bidder wins, the seller recants the deal to ebay saying the item was broken/damaged and avoids the fees. The current high bidder has a buyer/seller rating of 12,216. One would assume this bidder is a savy or knowledgeable buyer; but, then again he/she may not have a clue to the item's authenticity. To your point, I see where 2 bidders duked it out up to $1,375.00. This may confirm bidding against himself as under 2 different usernames. Hard to say if a scam or not; but, I think more so!

Just another one of those "profiteer" guys buying items like this to resell and forcing ebayers to bid on his items thus driving up prices and making it unaffordable for others to obtain crusty gas caps that would have been thrown away back in the day? DAMN HIM! 46el

The hard to find early early Eaton Cap has what I believe to be "EDM" stamped on the bayonet. If I remember correctly someone told me eaton used to be "Eaton Something Something" and the name was changed to just plain Eaton for some reason?
I also heard a story today where someone recently bought a pair of original paint 36-39 style gas tanks in nice shape with the original Eaton Gas Caps attached for 7500 bucks. . The story goes the guy gets the tanks, removes the gas caps and tosses the tanks in his scrap metal pile and keeps the caps in a safe place. True story as I know nobody who calls here ever tells me any lies. Hah!
