  • Rigid Frame Trailer Hitch

I need a trailer hitch for my knucklehead and don't want to "re-invent the wheel" . Has anyone made or used a hitch on a rigid-framed bike?

    You want to WHAT!

I saw a photo in the back issues of club magazine on CD.
A period photo of a JD towing another racer. Not a clear image but
looked like Y-shaped attachment to frame of bike. Universal joint
connection to trailer. Narrow drop axel trailer. Maybe 2.5 to 3 feet wide with
a raised railing around it approx. 2.5 feet high.

So the whole deal would be major chunk of custom fab. And would
certainly ruffle a few feathers. Go for it!

Look into getting the trailer design DOT approved before you start.
I think home builts cost more to insure.

thanks - I'll try to see if I can find the photo.
I already have the trailer - a used cyclemate 1000, so no work to do on that end. I just need to figure out the best way to hook up to the bike frame. I'm thinking of using the rear sidecar mount bolt holes to triangulate my hitch, or maybe even the rear stand mount (although I might like to have the stand on there during trips). Ideally my hitch mount would leave access to the axle nuts, allow the rear stand to remain in place and be easy to install/remove. And look good too!

Look good! WHAT! Your on the road to freakyville my friend.

I think you'll snap off the casting holes. Maybe parallel the sub-frame lower tubes with custom brackets two spots each side. Four total. Front ones would be solid stops. Rear clamps.

Or get a side hack, package car.....
