Gas Caps and Gaskets

I noticed that GB makes a leather gas cap gasket to replace the 1936 through 1947 cap gasket. Has anyone used these with any luck? I'm tired of watching the rubber gaskets turn to goo from this wonderful liquid that we now call gasoline. I also noticed that Ted sells a replica Eaton-style vented gas cap set for the '39 through '64 model years - although both caps are vented. Has anyone used these? How do they look? Also, I've always used a vented cap on the right side only. I would think that a vented cap on the left is a recipe for a lifted paint job if you fill-up too high. Am I wrong??

Both caps were vented until 1965 when they added the crossover hose under the dash. I got some rubber gaskets from Custom Chrome long ago that have held up well to the extra stuff in our gasoline.

Eatons (left in attachment) were apparently vented in two fashions, and Tedd (right) copied the ones where a swollen gasket will cover the vents.
Expansion from sunlight is enough to make fuel leave the unvented tank and be forced out the other, taking paint with it.

About 30 + years ago I painted a 57 Pan for a guy. About 2 1/2 years later in the spring time he takes it out and fills it up lets it set out in the sun. Gas runs down the left tank and ruins the paint. He comes knocking on my door and says I gave him a bad paint job and should repaint it for free. Didn't happen.

I think his gas cap seals are made from Viton. Whatever their made of, I've had them on several bikes for over a year and so far, no problems with swelling or covering vent holes.
