  • 1937 Rear Brake Lever Question

The rear brake lever on my 37 EL (#1337) is the correct early stamping with the grease zirk on the rear of the pivot and two 1/4" holes for the return spring and the brake rod clevis, however it also has a hole for the parking brake too. According to Palmer's book, only the third version of this lever (mid 1937 through 1938) should have the hole for the parking brake, but Palmer says those levers have the zirk on the front of the pivot. All of the 1/4" holes look the same with a small bevel on edge the openings. Any ideas? I don't want to fill the parking brake hole if it's correct the way it is now. Thanks

You have a mid 37-38 brake lever. Also not mentioned is the single hole brazed clutch actuating arm for 1938.

Here is a picture of the lever. It still has original cad plating on it. I always thought it was a early 1937 lever because of the rear zirk position, 1/4" hole for brake rod clevis, and the cad plating. My understanding was the mid-1937 and 1938 levers were parkerized, the zirk moved to the front position, and they received an additional hole for the parking brake. Just trying to get it right. Are you saying there was another brake lever in 1938 that only had one hole? Thanks

He said clutch lever not brake lever. He's talking about the arm on top of the Transmission that the clutch rod hooks into and disengages the clutch
