  • Late '47 EL clutch and brake pedal pad

I have the original pads that were on my bike. The clutch has the style where the rubber forms a bezel on the back side and the steel plate is visible. The brake pad is a rubber encapsulated pad.

I was told by a recognized expert that the rubber encapsulated pad is not a HD part and probably came from an old Ford. Yet, when I look on places like ebay, I see the same style pad listed as NOS HD parts. So, I'm thinking that the rubber encapsulated version may be a panhead or later accessory and the bezel style is what is correct for my Knuck.

I don't want to use my original pads because the steel plates are cracked badly and the half, heel pad has been redrilled for a new bolt. I plan on riding my bike and don't want to lose those pads. So, I'm going to put repop pads on the bike for riding purposes. V-Twin makes the bezel style. Yet the rubber encapsulated style is available as NOS for less money on fleabay. Yes, I know, fleabay is a buyer-beware experience.

So, is my expert friend correct? Or is the rubber encapsulated version also a HD part? Given my bike has 42K on the odo and I know it was ridden a lot by the previous owner, I can see him replacing that brake pad with a more current version at some point later in the bikes life.

    Thanks,
    Rob

Up into at least the '80s NAPA used to sell universal pedal pads that were identical to H-D. And other Automotive suppliers sold close versions as well. Most owners would use a generic replacement if it was cheaper.
How about pictures of what you have? There are several variations.

Here are photos of the pads. Suspect clutch pads are original. 42K original miles on the bike.
