"45EL1" on eBay ???

Didn't Harley start all production motors with "1000" preceded by Year & Model? On eBay there's a set of blown out EL cases with VIN #45EL1. Looks like a portion of the VIN Boss is missing. How were experimental cases marked?

All numbers would have started at 1000 or 1001. I could not tell if he photoshopped the number so we could not figure it out or not. I doubt that 1945 would have gotten into the 2000's. I think a guy should clarify this before bidding.

Jerry, I agree on the clarification. After a 2nd look at the photos, looks like the vin was blurred out after the 1 on the case & CA ownership papers! I posted a question t the seller (Jane).

The seller replied that she blurred out the VIN since she'd seen everyone else doing so.

Even if the numbers are good... are those cases even repairable? Or is someone buying a pink slip and then looking for a stamp set?

There is a ''busted'' left side case + Title for sale on Ebay currently.

VIN 47EL1055 and date code L-6 both look right.
But belly number is 47-5895. Why such a difference?
Any opinion - is this item legit?

the VIN actually is 47 E 1055. Gets even more confusing.
As far as I know the E's were produced for two years 1936/1937 only!
Where is this ''Frankenstein'' case from?

The E's were made 1936 to 1947 in knuckle heads. They are a bit rare in the later years I think. Looks to me that the 47 case pn eBay you mentioned may have been in a fire.

i think harley got it right when they named these motors. looks like the fed is right and the economy is back on track
