any idea on the year??

Hi, here's a cool old pic of my grandpop on his knuck... he was born in 1913 and he's prob in his mid 20s here which if the bike was brand new would put it around '38. Pretty sure its pre-40 but hard to tell.. any ideas of exact year? Just curious. Thanks 2014-09-08 22.21.53.jpg

Looks like a 39 to me

It is hard to tell exactly but a few of the things I noticed.

Square toolbox - 1939 and earlier
Square front crash guard - mid 1939 and earlier
Flare fitting oil lines - 1938 and up
Paint on the front fender almost looks like 1936.

Thanks guys. Yeah i thought it was def pre-40, but couldn't figure exact year.... we'll call it 38/39. Love the pic and wish the bike was still in the family! My dad tells me he had lots of bikes and indians were his favorite

Looks like the license plate is above the rear tailight, thats why 1939, was my guess

Also 18" wheels... skinny tires.
