Correct transmission 47 knuck

Need help in identifying a correct 1947 knucklehead Transmission , what CAST date codes should be present on kicker and main housing ??

Pretty tough question to answer with 100% certainty but I would think that any knucklehead trans with a date code with a 6 in it or ABCDEFG -7. Sounds like you need Palmer's newest book.

That would depend on the serial number of your engine.

I agree with JWL. Get a transmission in it and ride. This is what serial numbers and date codes mean and granted these are motor cases but you get the idea I hope. These are a couple of busted 47 motor cases that I have.


This is an original numbered 1947 EL engine case (47EL746*) and it has a casting date of what appears to be E 7. Which should be May of 1947 although it is a bit hard to read. Its' case matching number is 47-8409







This second original numbered 47 FL case is a little later production and it has a serial of 47FL872* so we should expect it to have a casting date of E 7 or a little later. Well the casting is actually much earlier at L 6 which is November or December of 1946 so some where this case sat unused for up to 6 months. It is really too bad that the case matching number is missing from this case.
