I have one threaded all the way to the top. The top of the nut is also flat. you want a picture I can dig it out for you when it warms up a little .

Yes that is an early (1936 to 1938) stem nut. There are 2 variations of this. One is threaded all the way and one is threaded about half way.

Because the top nut had a longer lip on it. Obviously that didn't work out well.
