Production Numbers, how many did they make of a certain model?

I have a 1945 EL and am trying to figure out how many bikes were made in 1945 by type? there are a few general production numbers out there that encompass all bikes the MoCo made. but looking for how many FL's , EL's etc. my vin: (year)EL1779, so do I assume that my bike is the 1779th EL produced in 1945?

No, don't make that assumption! The engine numbering started at 1000 ( some years 1001) and both EL and FL engines were stamped from the same sequence as they were the same "family" of types. So if yours is 1779 there could be an FL that is 1780 and 1778, but no 1779. And yours would be the 780th of TOTAL OHV production.
