  • 1945/46 Welded frame

When did Harley start welding the side car loop. Thanks

I know of 2 original 1945 UL's both original motorcycles not pieced together. Both have early VIN's (between 45UL1100 and 45UL1120) both have brazed frames. If 1945 models ever came with welded sidecar loops it wasnt until later in production.

The change came in mid 1945, exactly I do not know. 45U21xx (original bike) is electric welded at the sidecar loops. It was built mid to late April 1945. The electric welded version of the 1941-very early 1946 frame was last used on a few weeks of the early production of 1946 models up to the factory strike in early September 1945. The frame was changed to the 30° "bull neck" in November 1945 just a few days after the end of the strike.
