  • 27 JD Generator Hardware Questions

Would anyone know the thread pitch for the 3/8 set screw for the timer base in the generator? The threads on mine are confused. There were 2 set screws in the parts pile that came with my bike, both are 3/8-24, but neither appear to be original. Pics of the correct one would be great.

Likewise, I have the same question for the 3 generator base mounting bolts. I believe bolt part # is 070 but cant find specs on that bolt.

This is someone else’s unfinished project I bought. What frustrated them to a stopping point, I am plowing through to a finish.

      Bob,
My '20-'27 parts book notes p/n 1542-20 as the timer base set screw. Found a web link on detailing JD gens and it notes the 1542-20 as 5/16-32. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the 5/16-32 reference in the Perry Ruiter article. The hole for the set screw in my generator is 3/8, so I guess at some point in the past it was enlarged, and I will have to source my own. Would anyone have a picture of a stock set screw, or be able to tell me if it is flat or ends in a point on the end opposite the screw slot? I would think a point so it rests inside the hole in the timer base.
