  • J Model Inlet Housings/Rocker Towers

A quick question which may have been addressed before, though I can't find the Forum Thread.

I'm starting the assembly of the motor of my 21F restoration, but am unsure which of the two types of inlet housings, (photos attached) to use: the type with the narrower opening at the top and the casting number DA743 on the side of one of the rocker support arms; or the later type with the wider mouth and the casting number DA743A on the body of the housing.

I think that the former was used up through 1922, and the latter from 1923 when the heavier, conical, inlet valve springs were introduced, but I don't have any documentation, and would be happy to stand corrected. Any advice or info gratefully received as always.

You are correct. The narrow hole is correct for your 1921.
You are also 100% correct regarding the reason. The -23 conical springs need more room.

Thank you Mark, as always. That has to be close to a record for a response to a query - 25 minutes!
