1927 oil

Hi

As I am new to these machines can somebody inform me of what oil should be used for summer running

I run straight 60 wt in my 27 JD.

Dear Chris, with our temperate UK climate straight 50 weight in the engine should be fine. Don't use multigrade as the base oil is too thin and it will leak out. Harley said to use the same engine oil in the gearbox, but I run 80/90 EP gear oil in the three speeds, and 50 weight only in the VL reverse and four speeds so they shift easier when cold.
