  • JD Frame Bracket - Replacement

I have a Harley JD frame which has the seat bracket broken off. I have purchased a new seat bar bracket from Replicant. Can anyone help me with how to remove the remnants of the old seat bar bracket and replace it with the new one - weld, braze etc. ?
    thanks

They were brazed on. You can do as you like to affix the bracket to the back bone. The problem your going to run into is it perpendicular to the frame. I use right angles and a cheap laser from home puke. The last thing you want to find out after paint is you seat sits at an angle. It's got to be dead on the first time around. Bob L

Heat it up till it drops off. I got to thinking about this last night after I posted. If you were to make a post that fit in to the seat tube tightly with a hole drilled though it at the top. Mount a piece of small angle on each side. adjust the angle down so it sits on each side of the back bone. Measure off the back bone to the angle on each side until there evenly distanced. Now lock the seat post bolt and the just raise the angles up on each side to just above the back bone and your done. You now have a center to work with. You could basically build this jig to bolt up to the old one before removing and you can mount the new one dead on. Bob L
