Can someone please describe the differences in these tanks from say 1917 to 1921? My parts book shows '17-'20 tanks as one set of numbers and '21 tanks as another. Yet I've been told by one supplier that their tanks are correct for '16-'21.

Also, any clues as to year for the tanks currently listed on ebay?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Just a guess, but maybe because of paint striping differences.

1917-1920 tanks are the same under the paint. The same can be said for 1921-1924 tanks. These later tanks are slightly wider than the earlier tanks and have a larger capacity. This is likely because of the introduction of the new 74" models in 1921 and their slightly greater appetite for fuel. The differences in the parts book relate to base color and striping variations. For example, the 1922 standard color is Brewster green with two gold pinstripes. The 1923 is Brewster green but with three gold pinstripes. The steel is the same.
With regard to the tanks on eBay, I can't tell from the pictures, however, an easy tell is the left rear filler bung. The earlier style tanks have a dimple or scalloped out area on the rear of this bung. The 1921-24 tanks do not. Ask the seller for a detailed picture or description of that area.
With regard to many suppliers, they are often inaccurate with their application years.

        Thanks, Jim
I am aware of only one supplier of tanks and their outside appearance is different from original.

As far as I know, Jethro doesn't currently make 1916 and later tanks. I know that Replicant Metals sell the 1917 and later tanks.
