  • air leak around venturi

    I am rebuilding a M88 for a 45'' bobber project .
I have noticed light around the venturi and carb body , does anyone know of an effective way to make up this difference ?
I was going to wrap teflon tape(the type used on pipe threads) around the venturi then install in body .
Cotten are You out there , I need your help !!
    Thanks JP

    JP!

For a few years now I have been swaging shrunken potmetal venturies oversize to then lathe-cut to a light press fit.

However, it turns out that the venturies continue to shrink, allowing them to become loose again over year's time.

The apparent solution would be to obtain new venturies made of aluminum. However, quality control has eluded more than one aluminum venturi producer!

For an M88, the best source to date would be 45PartsDepot

Cotten , Thank You for Your reply , The venturi I speak of is new .
I measured the dia of the carb body and its not perfectly round .
Thank caused My first problom , I was going to ''tin'' the venturi then turn in on My lathe , however with the carb body being out a few thousands I don't know if it will help .
Any feeling on the teflon tape to make defference ?

        JP!

What kind of venturi can be "tinned"?
(Other than DLX 36's and '40 models of Scheblers, which were brass.)

A teflon bandaid doesn't sound like a lasting solution.

If an aluminum venturi was actually a press fit into the bore, then it would distort a bit to match the bore.

        Good luck!

          Cotten ,
I have used the low temp aluminum brazing alloy rods to fix aluminum parts with great results , a purchase at Rhinebeck 07
I think I will machine a new venturi to fit !
          Thank You again , JP
