Peashooters, Schebler AMX, Linkert MR1&2 race carbs

Here's my two AMX 12 carbs with the only difference being the top barrel cap.
The 12 is flat and the 12A is stepped.
Everything else measures up identical.
The 12A is off my 500 o.h.v. single and has had a pretty had life.
The air horn is a repo one made here in N.Z.
Both carbs have the 4 screw holes for the air horn angle adjustment AMX12 2.JPGAMX12 1.JPG

I really hate answering my own questions, Folks.
Apparently the four-screw flange was developed so the air horn could be installed at four different angles.

While we are waiting for Eddie on the OHV thread,...
The four-screw inlet flange upon the Super's AMX is fascinating; The late aluminum AMX appears to be the only Schebler like that.
The Wheeler-Schebler and L&L factories were about eight blocks apart (hearsay), and used the same founders, probably.
So L&L 'assimilated' the design by '37, at least, but perhaps as early as the first aluminum GXs?
Yet none used a four-screw airhorn?

And I wish I could figure it out.
Do you have to remove a head to service the manifold?
Thanks in advance as always,...

PS: I just noticed the four-screw inlet flange with the two-screw air horn.
Another enigma.
Wait! That's a Linkert bowl.Last edited by T. Cotten; 06-28-2022, 05:26 PM.

Great pic, Motorviking!
It appears to me to be a conventional gland-nut attachment directly to the head,
And a Type B DLX with the bowl indexed to the opposite side. The intake appliance looks "wildcat" (one-off or barnyard) to me, but what do I know...
No support is silly.
No top motormount scares me too. By any chance, have you any data for original balance factors, please?

The long intake tract looks a nightmare from a carburation and strength point of view. Possibly why few survive. Think they either broke or were modified. In the back of my mind I think I read somewhere Harley offered an update kit to change from 10-26 to 10-27. Shorter inlet tracker and twin port.

It baffles me what was going through the minds of the engineers, Motorviking,...
(But gimme a hacksaw and torch, and I'll make anything fit.)
Engineer talk.jpg
With luck, forum member Kitabel is lurking, and can tell us the advantages/disadvantages of such a long inlet tract.
(My armchair-engineer license expired, but it seems like alcohols might 'puddle-out' worse than gasolines.)
And now I must review my pic collection again, Thanks!

PS: Can you take a guess at the head in the pic in post #4?
They all look alike to me!
PPS: One more question please,..
What supported all of this extended hanging mass?Last edited by T. Cotten; 06-25-2022, 01:37 PM.

…or works S head. Think the works head has no fuel primer and bigger valves - different versions existLast edited by Motorviking; 06-25-2022, 12:39 PM.

(But that's not hard, since I have zero experience with anything but GXs.... Does this pic show a 10-27 head?)

PS: I suspect Chris Haynes provided that pic.Last edited by T. Cotten; 06-25-2022, 12:14 PM.
