Nipples

Now that I have your attention. Has anybody ever heard of using washers between the nipple and on the outside of the rim so nipples wont fall through? A friend of mine dropped off some hummer rims with new spokes. The nipples drop right through the rim. With it were some washers. The ID of the washer is too small for the nipple even to fit through. I dont think this right or even safe? He bought rims ans spoke set from a reputable hummer parts guy. I would think either the rim holes should have been smaller or nipples a larger size. Any thoughts? Dan

Lightweight rims are drilled small for the correct nipples. Are you sure he has the correct rims? 36 hole, 19s are marked -47, 18s marked -55. Nipple washers are a band-aid, and were not used as original.
