  • 1943 WLC Siren parts help!

I have a 1943 WLC that I want to mount a siren on. Don't care if it's original or aftermarket, just want to make the kid happy when it makes noise while he is sitting in the sidecar.

I can find a ton of them online for sale. The problem I am having is that all the ones I see do not look like they will fit my frame. I was told that the WL frame is different and I would need to find the right one for that limited year frame. Does anyone have any idea which mounting bracket I will need for the siren and the peddle? Please!

I would need the siren that mounts under the frame tubes not in between them.

While you could try to mount a wheel driven siren under the frame, Harley never provided one. The rear sirens HD provided for 45 Solo models do fit between the tubes with a bracket that mounts to both the upper and lower frame tubes, suspending the siren. See:

    http://webshop.45flatheadservice.com...oducts/1122507

HD also supplied a front siren that would also do the job. See:

    http://webshop.45flatheadservice.com...oducts/1122501

This company also lists a 45 rear siren with the same cover as shown on their front siren but their listing shows it with a later ElectraGlide mount so you would need to talk to them about it to verify what it comes with. In any case, you are going to have to cut your fender to make clearance needed for the siren shaft.

See this site for a photo showing the rear wheel siren attached to a WLA and you will see the need for cutting a hole in your fender for clearance (it almost at the bottom of the site's long page).

Your other alternative is to attach a 6V electric siren.

Thanks for the info! The pictures are a big help too. I wish they took a better shot of the foot peddle that operated the siren. It is looking like I will need to cut the fender. No big deal, the bike has been modified and is far from original. I have a guy here in Chicago at a place called Throttle Masters. He has been doing 45's for as long as I can remember. He is the one that told me that the under frame mount is hard to find because they only made them for a few years.

Thanks for the quick reply. I hope there will be a few more coming. I am going to stop by Throttle Masters Wednesday and see what he has came up with. If you like, I'll let you know.

      really, thanks again!

I think I found the one I was looking for. I guess I'll know for sure when it gets here from the Netherlands.

http://45flatheadservice.nl/ is where I found this.

Well... here we go. I sent the money by PayPal to 45flatheadservice. It was a week ago. I have not heard back since. No answer by phone and no email back to me after asking for a tracking number 4 times. Did I get ripped off or is that how it is done in the Netherlands? Anyone else ever deal with them before?

Dear Paul, the Dutch guys should be OK. Thousands of WLA/WLC bikes were left in the Netherlands after WW2 and Harley didn't sell a new bike there for the next 20 years. Many Dutch riders use sirens and the repros are distributed from there. I think I've seen this guy at our Meets, but I could ask our numerous Dutch AMCA members to chase him up if you don't get satisfaction in the coming days.

                Hi Paul

I have had several dealings with them, generally they come good but like you I experienced the "no contact once your order is placed, and paid for", recently I ordered quite a few parts and paid up front from there web site, 2 weeks later I received an e-mail saying your order has been rejected, no explanation was sent, however there where three current orders in place, they cancelled them and re funded me for parts not sent, but have posted some of the order, which I have not yet received. This has effectively put my WLA build back a month, An explanation such as sorry these parts are not in stock would have done, or even better do not advertise what you haven't got. !!!

I just don't know what to do. I just called there again and got an answering machine. I don't speak Dutch but left a message in English. It is kind of crazy. Not sure if I should wait or try and get my credit card company to stop payment.

Steve, if you had a contact over there and are close enough to them to ask that would be great! I am customer number 2393

                    Paul

I managed to contact them via e-mail and have been assured that my order will be sent today (3 weeks after placing the order). They originally cancelled a lot of the items and re funded me, (no issue regarding re-funds).
Now it appears they are sending me all but two items from the original orders so as said before they do come good in the end, well of to find the two missing parts !
They speak fluent English so your message would have been received
The guys in Holland do not rush anything, so expect a slow response to your order and any communications.
                    Frustrating is it not ?

                    Chris

Oh well... I got an email today from 45Flatheadservice. The part is out of stock and they do not know when they will get one. I was offered a refund and as of tonight the money has been refunded to my PayPal account. Luckily, I bought the last tandem seat from a guy named Maurice (sounds like a song I used to know). http://www.ebay.com/usr/hdmaus45?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 is his EBay name. He says he can get the siren in two days. I ordered it from him. Hopefully the siren will find it's way to the DHL/German Post office. Maurice has assured me that the tandem seat is on the way. He has 100% positive feedback on EBay so I believe him (so far). My seat has been at the German post Office since January 14th. Hopefully that will get here soon. Or maybe they will arrive together? Soon? One can hope...
I need to thank all of you guys. I sold all my bikes after I became a special needs dad. 7 years later, My little dude is doing so well that he finally asked to go for a ride. But only if he can sit next to me. That is why I am back happy again. Nothing like taking apart and old bike and putting it back together. Plus all the help from guys like you.
Thanks again. I'll let you know if I ever get all of the stuff and if I can figure out how to post a video, I'll scream the siren for you!

No siren yet but... Super excited about the tandem seat from the Netherlands.

It looks so cool. And as inpatient as I was, it only took one month to get here. Safe and sound and wrapped up like a little baby.

Well, the siren came in from the Netherlands. I have to admit... I'm happy. I have no idea if I hooked it up right but it does work so I guess I'm ahead of the game. I'll upload some pictures because I had a hard time finding them for myself and some day maybe someone will find these. I will also try and load a video if I can figure out how to...
