  • JD distributor drive gear

Does anybody have a good used or make a distributor drive gear for a 1928 JD?
Mine has half the teeth worn off and I can't help believe it is really altering my ignition timing.

Your best bet is probably eBay for a used one. But try searching on either a Timer drive gear or a Breaker drive gear, not distributor drive. Technically, the JD doesn't have a distributor, it has a timer.

For new/repro parts, try Competition Distributing out in South Dakota. If anyone makes a good repro, it's probably them. Also the guy in Holland, Jan Willen Boon, I think, may have the part. Both sources are highly reliable and make great stuff.

    Cheers,

    Sirhr

another good search would be on the part number from the appropriate Spare Parts book (in reprint.)
Timer shaft gear 1547-18 (twins) 1545-26 (singles.)

Try Jon Numo at Sagebrush Cycles in TX.

He has a lot of JD parts.

If you want to get technical, Harley did use a JD distributor from 1918 to 1926. It had a single lead ignition coil and the distributor cap distributed the spark to the 2 cylinders.

The Circuit Breaker sat in a Timer Base and used a Distributor Cap; p.25 pf the 1922-1928 Spare Parts booklet. We all know what we're talking about. :-)
